Portland Community College’s Southeast campus will soon get a makeover.
Construction crews this fall are set to start on a $39 million expansion project that will involve adding a library, commercial storefronts, green space for public gatherings, and a child development center, reported The Oregonian.
Several of the new additions will be around the perimeter of the campus, lining Southeast 82nd Avenue and Division Street, so that they will be more visible to the community, the newspaper reported. The campus’ expansion is being funded with a $374 million bond measure that voters approved in 2008. Several campuses in the community college’s district have upgrades in the works.
The Southeast campus’ expansion goes along with Portland’s neighborhood prosperity initiative, which involves small business districts receiving urban renewal funds to promote economic development.
